EEL FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT RULES
28th June 2025

1. Each team will consist of 5 players on the pitch at any one time.
2. The tournament will be a round robin group stage, followed by a
knockout tournament. It will be 5 groups with the first place team in
all groups progressing through to the knockouts and the 3 highest
second place teams going through to a quarter finals.
3. Matches are 10 minutes straight, with no half time.
4. Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed in the semi-circular goal
area
Infringement of this rule by : Defenders – Penalty to attacking team.
Attackers – free kick to defenders, one metre outside area.
5. Goalkeepers can throw the ball underarm or kick the ball back in to
play. Goalkeepers are not allowed outside the area, if they leave
the area a penalty kick is awarded.
6. There is a head height rule, if the ball is kicked above this the
opposing team is awarded a free kick. Head Height is deemed 6ft.
7. At free kicks opposing players must retreat at least 1 metre from the
ball.
8. No sliding tackles will be allowed. This is defined as a player having a
knee or any other part of their body touching the floor during the
motion of the tackle.
9. Holding onto the boards and over physical play on the boards will be
penalised.
10. Substitutions can be made throughout the game, as many as you
wish with the referees consent when the ball is not in play.
11. Goalkeepers can be changed but only when the ball is dead.
12. If a player is sent off they will miss the remainder of the
tournament.
13. If a team is reduced to three players the game will be forfeited
and the game awarded 3-0 against them.
14. The referee’s decision will be final.
15. Bibs will be provided to distinguish between teams.
16. Pitches are 3G artificial grass, so any footwear is suitable.
Players can wear football boots, studs, moulded or trainers.
17. Shinpads are not compulsory.
The tournament is being held at Basingstoke Soccer Centre, in
Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, RG22 4HS
Parking – It is recommended that all teams park in the Asda car park that
is approximately a 3 minute walk from Basingstoke Soccer Centre. This
car park is free and unrestricted, there is no time limit on parking there.
Please allow time to park, walk to the venue and find your team in time
for your first match. The post code for Asda is RG22 4DH.
Kick off times – Please be on time to matches. We aim to keep on
schedule. Please make sure you have your team arrive 5 minutes before
the scheduled time to allow matches played on time.
Dogs – Please note that dogs are not allowed on the site.
